The name of this new laser
sensor has been derived from its function: It is
capable of recognizing any degree of
luster from "dull" to "high gloss". The
sensor is thus ideal for differentiation among
surfaces with varying degrees of
reflectivity.
The color of the object and the
distance between the object's surface and
the sensor are of little significance,
because influences caused by these factors are
eliminated during the measuring
sequence.
Visible laser light and a large
aperture make adjustment of the sensor
easy for any application.
Equipped with these features,
the gloss sensor is suited for a wide
variety of tasks including the
recognition of transparent labels on a white
substrate, or opaque labels on glass or clear
plastic. Paint finishes, as well as the amount of
moisture remaining in surface coatings, can also be
monitored with this innovation.
